HOCKEY - Hockey is usually seen as a very Canadian sport. However, some people fail to realize that it isn't the national sport. Lacross is. As wonderful as lacross is, yes I do enjoy playing it, I prefer hockey above all else. Why watch people jump on each other, also known as football, or people faking it everywhere, also known as soccer, and so forth when you can see sticks! ice! and pucks!

When I was younger, when I was 3 to be exact, my favorite hockey player was Wayne Gretzky. Primarily because I grew up around the years when the Edmonton Oilers won the Stanley Cup multiple times. As I grew older, hockey became a comfort to me because I provided company when I was home alone on Saturday evenings, Hockey Night in Canada. At that time, my favorite team was the Toronto Maple Leafs, and my favorite player was Mats Sundin. After a few years I lost interest in hockey, but when I entered highschool I tried making time to watch hockey games again. Unforunately things didn't succeed. However, during the 2005 - 2006 season, the local team got into the playoffs. It seemed to be a miracle, but when they got closer and closer to the finals things started getting a bit out of hand in the city. It's always been a "hockey city", and people got crazy over this. So what better time to get into hockey than during Edmonton Oiler's 2005 - 2006 playoff run?

Due to my spordic interest in the NHL. I have problems with keeping up with hockey players to the point that I seem misinformed. I also do not understand hockey "lingo" such as the word "deke" because I never really did care for them. Just a firm warning to not take me as hockey stupid. I know what's going on when I watch it. I know what's going on without play-by-plays too. Personally, I prefer hockey games without play-by-plays but that requires buying hockey tickets and going to the games...

When I was going through my second hockey phase when I was younger, I was spoiled with free media hockey tickets. According to those who went in place of me, they were terribly good seats but I didn't go to them. Fortunately I was lucky enough to acquire free tickets again in the 2006 - 2007 season. Although the team wasn't in great shape at the time, lacking with defence, I am quite happy that I went to the game. They won, and the goalie I wanted to see was in net. What more was there to ask for with exception of the fear of people spilling bear over me because the establishment fails to give everyone lids on their plastic beer cups and the tendency of filling beer up to the rim.
