SWORD OF THE NEW WORLD: GRANADO ESPADA - I remember that group project I had to do with friends who all happened to be World of Warcraft players. We were supposed to work via a chat medium, but it ended horribly as they dropped from the conversation one by one due to their "addiction". They tried suckering me into it by saying that I'd be able to ride a turtle in the game, but the truth is the turtle is pretty ugly. I've had a lot of friends who were addicted to MMORPGs in the past so when I started Granado Espada I was scared of becoming addicted. I still am, so I treat it as if it were a console videogame. Considering how much time I spend on those....

THE VARETH FAMILY

I used play on the Orpesia server and my family name was Vareth. If you're wondering how I came up with the family name "Vareth", think "Radiata Stories + Lezard Valeth". As you already my know I am female, but the majority of the Orpesia population did not believe that. Is Vareth a very masculine name? I started playing on the Orpesia server during Beta in the summer of 2006 and remained there when the game was officially released. I left the game during the Fall of 2008 for personal reasons. I do apologize to everyone for leaving without reason, but in some ways I guess it was the better way for me to go.

When people heard the name "Vareth" it came in conjunction with a guild led lead by myself and a few friends named Catharsis. It was originally a merger of two guilds which eventually grew to become one of the largest high tiered guilds on the server. We were able to farm several raids including Gerero, Diablo, Hellbreaker, Captain Schaffenberger, and Ureus before most guilds came into the picture. The raid which we were stalled at before the dissolve of the guild was Lava Leaf, but let's not get into that!

During my stay at Granado Espada I created many characters most which were geared for purpose of raiding. I was one of the first people who played a MCC (multiple character control) of elementalists on the server and enjoyed the challenge of manoevering them solo in places which people thought were impossible. I was also the first person on Orpesia who aquired and made the summoner Viki veteran. Before I left I dabbled a little with Brunie, Claude, Lorch and Baekho. The following are a few of my characters on the Vareth family Veteran denotes lvl 100+ and Expert denotes lvl 110+. Master was still not out when I was playing. As you may also notice, most of my character's name is Greek or Roman in origin. :

LUCIAN VARETH - Fighter (Expert +STR +STR)
I only use Lucian when i'm soloing in harder areas that require someone to spam provoke. He's not exactly geared to tank, but he can get the job done for minor raids. Normally he stays in the quarters. I used to have nice armor for him, something that was given to me from a friend who quit, but it dissapeared somehow. I'm afraid I accidentally sold it.
ERIC VARETH - Viki (Expert +CHA +CHA)
The pride and joy of the Vareth family. It took me forever to farm the items to obtain this UPC but all the effort and help from friends made things a little easier. Viki was named after one of my friends at the time who helped me farm the more difficult items. Although Viki is weaker than the conventional scouts, the reason why I prefer him over the other classes is that he looks cuter and he's able to summon massive monsters of sorts. Viki's racoon hat was something I was unable to get for a very long time. Fortunately a good friend of mine gave me one of his (the item is bound to one's account so you need to manipulate the item distribution within a squad)
ELIJAH VARETH - Elementalist (Expert +INT +INT)
I had a love hate relationship with Elijah. I hated him because he looked bad, but he makes things easier when grinding. To make things better I dressed him up to what I believe is the best dressed character in the Vareth family. Elijah is named after an Elementalist created by a friend who had left the game. He was the first family on Orpesia who played with two Elementalists. Another friend at the time name his female Elementalist, Glory, after his female Elementalist.
THEA VARETH - Elementalist (Veteran +INT)
Thea and Elijah work great as a team but unfortunately it is very hard to expert two Elementalists simultaneously. Thus Thea got left behind due to her busty-ness. If for whatever reason I would desire to return to playing Granado Espada I would make her an Expert.
CHLOE VARETH - Musketter (Veteran +DEX)
The one character named after myself. Give her two pistols and bullets and you'll be saying byebye to your bullets within a few hours. I would have made her expert had Elementalists not been of more importance later on in the game.
HELIOS VARETH - Musketter (Veteran +DEX)
I had trouble deciding whether to get a female or a male musketeer so as you can see I settled for both. He is almost identally geared as Chloe and can achive the same as her had not been the issue of constantly buying bullets.
NAOE VARETH - Wizard (Veteran +INT)
To tell you the truth, the only reason I chose a male wizard was because they look good. Thus, Naoe came to be. "Naoe" is derived from the Japanese historical figure "Naoe Kanetsugu". Coincidentally, I also named a random Pokemon of mine after the same "Naoe Kanetsugu". Apart from looking good, Naoe's role in the party is support magic as his offensive magic is not as strong in the latter parts of the game.
HACHIMITSU VARETH - Irawain (Veteran +STR)
Hachimitsu is one of the earlier Irawains on the Orpesia server. Before the cashshop was fully implimented it was required that you either make two accounts to acquire certain items to get him. It was because the item was not yet available in the cashshop.
LUCIUS VARETH - Garcia Hingus (Veteran +DEX)
When I first saw him on a map I had always dreamed of getting him. A few months later he was announced as a obtainable character so I rushed to get him. The road to getting him was terribly hard at the time. There's also a small joke when it comes to his naming scheme. As you can see Garcia is named Lucius and his brother is named ?
DOMITIUS VARETH - Eduardo Hingis (LVL 6X)
Eduardo is Garcia's brother. Because I had Garcia I wanted Eduardo to make a set. Continued from earlier, Garcia is named Lucius and Eduardo is named Domitius. Had I went through to name a third Claude UPC Ahenobarbus (red beard) I would have the full Lucius Domitius Ahenobarbus. Those three names combined is Emperor Nero's full name prior to becoming Emperor of Rome.
ORPHEUS VARETH - Vincente (Veteran +INT)
The only reason why I leveled him to Veteran was because if you promoted him to Veteran before a certain date you would get his alternative costume for free. Normally costumes would range between $5 - $10 at the time.
AKESIOS VARETH - Scout (Veteran +UNDECIDED)
I wanted to name him a name that was similar to Apollo but not exactly Apollo. Thus, Akesios, an epithet for Apollo, came to be. I don't use him because he looks horrible. I didn't make him a veteran until there was a promotion that gave out Black Wings per character which were promoted veteran within a certain time period.

Other active characters include the following. I have several more in Quarters but their purpose is to boost the Family Level.:

  • TITUS VARETH - Lorch (VET + DEX)
I found love in Lorch before I quit. He was the best, despite what people say about him.
  • ARTY VARETH - Baek Ho (VET + STR)
As for the martial artists in the game I prefer Baek Ho over the others. I don't like his hair.
  • ANTIGONE VARETH- Summon Cath (VET + CHA)
Good for powerleveling but it's tiring to always summon.
  • OPHELIA VARETH- Summon Cath (VET + CHA)
    Good but tiring.
  • ANTIOPE VARETH - Brunie (LVL 4X)
I was casually leveling her before I quit. Reason being that I bought her costume.
  • CERES VARETH - Karjalain (LVL 8X)
The combination of rapier and ice magic is interesting.
  • CUDDLYLAMB VARETH - Claude (LVL 9X)
    Super awesome. I love Claude.
  • FISHSTICKS VARETH - Claude (LVL 5X)
  • PENTHESILEA VARETH - Grace (LVL 5X)
  • ATHENE VARETH - Romina (LVL 6X)
  • HUBERT VARETH - Jack (LVL 54)

ADVENTURES OF GAMING "PHOTOGRAPHY" - Granado Espada is very scenic you know. Despite being busy with the guild I managed to find some time for myself to take a few pictures. The obnoxious blue ring denote guild leader status. It glows in the dark. It can get annoying sometimes, but you sort of need to get used to it.
